Custom boxing gloves for gyms and clubs: weights, materials and branding
Which weights to stock, leather or PU, Velcro or laces, and how to put your gym's name on every pair.
Gloves are the first thing a new member buys and the piece of kit they use every session. Stocking your own branded gloves gives members a reliable pair from day one and puts your gym's name on every bag and every photo. Here's how to choose what to order.
Pick the right weights
Glove weight is measured in ounces. Heavier gloves carry more padding, which protects training partners and the hands inside them. A simple range covers most gyms:
- Kids gloves (around 6 oz) for junior classes.
- 10 oz and 12 oz for pad work, fitness classes and lighter adults.
- 14 oz as the all-round training glove for bag and pad work.
- 16 oz for sparring, where more padding protects your partner.
Sparring and competition rules differ between gyms, federations and events, so check what your club or league asks for before you order a batch for fights.
Leather or PU?
Genuine leather breaks in to the hand and lasts longest under heavy use, which makes it the choice for fighters and coaches. PU (synthetic leather) costs less, cleans easily and holds up well in fitness classes and starter packs. Many gyms stock both: PU for beginners and class hire, leather for members who train most days.
Velcro or laces
A wide Velcro strap lets members put gloves on and off without help, which is what most gyms want for classes. Lace-up gloves give a tighter, more even fit and are mainly used for fights and serious sparring, but someone has to tie them for you.
Padding and lining
Look for layered foam that spreads impact across the knuckles, a padded thumb attached to the glove, and a breathable, moisture-wicking lining. Gloves that dry out between sessions last longer and smell less, which members notice.
Branding your gloves
There are several ways to put your logo on a glove, and they can be combined:
- Printed logos on the strike area or cuff, in any colour.
- Embroidery on the cuff for a raised, stitched finish.
- Debossing pressed into the leather for a subtle, premium look.
- Custom colourways that match your gym's colours.
- Branded packaging and boxes if you sell gloves at the front desk.
Build a starter pack
Gloves sell best alongside the rest of the kit. A starter pack of gloves, hand wraps, a rash guard and fight shorts in your gym's colours gives new members everything they need on day one and keeps your branding consistent across the floor.
